LIAS Seining Trip

October 4th @ 12:30

Steve Abrams is again volunteering his time and expertise in leading our seining trip this year. In addition our own Tracy Marcus will be helping us during this collection trip. It is scheduled for Sunday, October 4th at 12:30 PM near Oak Beach Inn (Democrat Point Inlet, North Side).

We will be meeting at the Oak Beach Inn parking lot (map below) and then traveling west bound to the seining area.  Last year we had a ball gathering many species, and according to Steve this year appears to be even better!

Remember that you should have a tank set up ahead of time if you plan on keeping any tropicals that you catch.  In the past I set up a tank about two weeks prior to collecting.  I used water taken from the Great South Bay in West Sayville.  It worked fine.  Certain local fish are also allowed to be kept as long as they are not classified as a game fish or have a restriction on them.  The best way to get your catch home is in an air-rated 5 gallon bucket.  Don't forget the cover!  You can power the air pump with an inexpensive DC to AC power converter.  Even if you don't plan on keeping anything it is a great day with a lot of fun.  Don't forget to bring drinks and suntan lotion.
