Welcome to the Long Island Aquarium Society
The Long Island Aquarium Society, Inc. (LIAS) is the oldest
organization devoted to Tropical Fish in the Long Island area. It is a
non-profit organization dedicated to the study of aquatic life, with
the goals of promoting interest, exchanging ideas, and encouraging the
breeding and showing of fish.
The membership is made up of men, women and children of all ages and
levels of experience. Included are nationally renowned individuals who
are eager to share their experience and expertise in all aspects of
aquarium and fish management.
LIAS meets at 8PM on the 3rd Friday of each month (except July and
August) at Holtsville Park - 249 Buckley Road, Holtsville NY 11742. The
meetings feature programs covering all aspects of tropical fish keeping
presented by noted guest speakers. A bowl show is featured every month,
with ribbons awarded for first, second and third place, culminating in
the annual Bowl Show Champion Award. A social atmosphere is enjoyed by
all during refreshment. It is at this time that members "talk fish",
exchange ideas and secrets, trade fish and establish friendships. The
meetings resume with free door prizes and a raffle. Auctions are held
monthly and all have the opportunity to bid for rare and home-bred
fish, or equipment at bargain prices.
Visitors are always welcome and, of course, may participate in the
raffle and auction. The nominal membership dues allow voting privileges
and a membership card, which entitles the member to generous discounts
at local pet shops. |
