Report on April 2024 Meeting

Hello All!

We gain new members at every meeting and the April meeting was bigger than ever. I have come to recognize many of your faces and know when you are absent. We had almost ten of our regular members who weren’t able to make it, so the crowd could have been even larger!

We even had three generations of fish keepers in one family! It’s a Friday night, with no school the next day, so why not bring kids.

If our membership keeps growing, we may have to look for another venue. If you know of one, please contact me.

There were also many entries in our Fish Show. If you won or even placed, you should be proud of yourself. Some of the entries are from fifty-year veteran fish keepers. I proudly won third with female Albino Kribenses. Second was taken by Ray with a very nice Multi Guppy. Carla won first prize with a beautiful Plakat Betta.

Many enjoyed my revised pond presentation, even some members who have had ponds for years. My goal in the next year is to get others to do presentations either from our club or sister clubs. If there is a last-minute cancelation, I’ll fill in with one of my presentations or we’ll figure something out.

I will another letter sometime before the next meeting on May 17 to let you know what will be happening.

April 19 2024 Meeting

Hello All,

Hard to believe our meeting is this Friday already! This letter will be short because I must get to work on my gardens and ponds. The board meeting this week went well and our club is prospering and growing more than expected. There are many things in store for the club’s future as we grow, and I will talk about them at the meeting. As I have already said many times, I want to give as much as receive from the members. I thank all that come to the meetings not only to participate in buying raffles and bidding in the auction, but to those that bring in fish. Our fish auctions have been amazing.

Our vice president Nefes gave a great presentation on Axolotls at the last meeting. We are working on axolotl eggs so if anyone wants them talk to me or Nefes at the meeting. At this next meeting there will be a presentation on how to set up and install a small pond and inexpensive filter. Ponding is lots of fun when you get into it and adds another whole parameter to fish keeping.

I was happy many people arrived at the meeting at seven so we could get started a little early and hang out and talk more before I started talking LOL. If we could do the same for this meeting that would be great. I would like to try to start sometime between 7:30 and 8:00 again. We will meet at the same place and if you have a problem parking, the medical building next door has a big lot that is always empty.

See you there! Don’t for get to bring your best fish for the Fish Show (a link to the rules is below).

Report on March 15 Meeting

Report on March 15 Meeting

Hello All!

What a turnout for our March meeting!  We are on our way, if not already, to being a club that is talked about amongst other clubs.  For me, it was a little bit intimidating overseeing such a group.  Of course, I could not do it without all the help I have been getting.  It’s great that not only is the club growing but everything else that goes along with it.  I must thank not only the helpers, but people buying raffle tickets, bringing in fish for the auction, bidding and buying fish. I like the way we can all talk not only with each other but also during the meeting.  It’s a club and everyone is participating even if there is a little friendly heckling.  It makes it fun!

Our presentation about Axolotls by our vice president Nefes was amazing.  You would not have known that was her first fish club presentation at all.  The PowerPoint, pictures and video were right on.  There was such interest with many questions afterwards.  I was thinking that if anyone wants to get Axolotl eggs, we could do a group buy from the breeder and split them up at the meeting.  Send me an email if you think this would be something you might want to do.

I am still working on getting my friend to do a presentation on tub gardens for the next meeting.  Spring is coming and it is fun to put some fish out for the summer.  If he cannot, I may do my presentation on installing a small simple pond.  It’s like a tub but just a little bigger and more permanent.

Our fish show was another success with Buzz taking first and third, and Evelyn giving him a run for the money, so to speak, taking a close second.  Which leads me to the fish calendar that we want to make.  If you want your fish to be in the calendar, send the pics to liasphotos@gmail.com and we will edit them and put them in.  We have time and I will talk about it during our next meeting.
